Pool automation: apps, dosing and technology control

Pool automation can control filtration, heating, lighting, dosing, water features and covers. But for it to actually help, it must be clear who sets it up, who services it, and what happens if the internet goes down or a sensor fails.

  • Ask for a wiring diagram and a list of controlled components.
  • Ask about manual mode and service access.
  • For dosing, address probe calibration and regular water checks.

Updates and cybersecurity

A system connected to the internet needs regular firmware updates and secure access, otherwise it becomes a weak point in the whole home network. Ask how long the manufacturer supports the given controller version and what happens if the app or cloud service is discontinued in a few years – whether the technology remains controllable locally.

Before installing automation, also consider how the system communicates with existing technology from other manufacturers – not every platform supports open protocols. For larger installations, it’s worth having a single supplier responsible for the whole integration, rather than individual components from different companies without clear coordination.
