How much does a garden pool cost and where prices often rise

The price of a garden pool in offers is often listed only as a “from” amount for the pool shell or liner. The reality tends to be higher, because several items get added to the basic tank that don’t appear in the initial offer.

Basic budget

For a smaller in-ground pool (approx. 6×3 m), the basic delivery including technology usually runs into the hundreds of thousands of crowns, while above-ground and smaller kits cost considerably less. The final amount, however, depends heavily on the terrain, materials and the scope of technology.

Where prices most often rise

  • Groundwork and terrain – a sloping plot, rocky subsoil or a high groundwater level can increase the budget by tens of percent.
  • Electrical wiring and connections – if the utility room or distribution board isn’t within reach, extra metres of cabling and trenching get added.
  • Enclosures and safety features – an automatic enclosure or the safety cover required by regulations for publicly accessible pools significantly increase the price.
  • Water heating – a heat pump costs more upfront than solar heating, but pays off faster over a longer season.
  • Transport and access for equipment – a hard-to-reach plot means manual labour instead of machinery, which raises the cost of groundwork.

How to avoid unpleasant surprises when requesting quotes

Ask for a quote broken down item by item, not just one summary price. For items like groundwork or electrics, insist that the company prepare the quote only after visiting the site, not just from photos or a cadastral map.

Running costs after completion

In addition to the purchase price, budget for annual costs for chemicals, electricity for filtration and any heating. A pool with a cover and quality filtration tends to have significantly lower running costs than an open pool without an enclosure.
