Connected salt chlorination promises simpler pool care, remote monitoring and automation. The biggest difference is between a device that only produces chlorine and a system that also measures pH and ORP, communicates with the filtration and alerts you to problems.
- Ask whether the system measures pH and ORP, or whether that’s just an optional add-on.
- Check the lifespan, price and availability of the electrolytic cell.
- Address compatibility of salt water with ladders, heat exchangers, covers and surrounding materials.
- Ask who has service access in the app and how notifications work.
Connecting to an app brings convenience, but also increases dependence on the cloud service provider — check how long the manufacturer plans to support the system and whether it stays functional without an active internet connection. In older pools, compatibility of the existing wiring with the new control module can be a limiting factor, and it’s worth discussing this with a technician before ordering. Also consider how the system alerts you to a dosing failure during a longer absence and how it behaves during a short power outage.
