Quick answer: After returning, first check for odour, cloudiness, the filter and water values. If unsure, it is safer to replace the water and clean the system.
Warm water in a hot tub does not like standing still. If the hot tub ran on a reduced schedule or without supervision during a holiday, disinfection, the filter and pipe cleanliness can deteriorate.
First check after returning
Do not get into the water just because it looks fine. Check the filter, water smell, foam and the measured values.
- pH and disinfection
- odour or a slippery surface
- foam on the surface
- filter condition
- temperature and time without maintenance
When adjusting the water is enough
If the water does not smell, the values can be stabilised, and the filter is clean, adjusting per the instructions and running the filtration longer may be enough.
- clean the filter
- adjust pH
- top up disinfection
- let it circulate
- measure again before bathing
When it is better to replace the water
Replacement is appropriate for odour, slimy walls, a long shutdown, recurring foam, or suspected biofilm in the piping.
