Water treatment works as a system. If the owner doesn’t measure pH, alkalinity and disinfection, they may keep buying more products while the problem keeps coming back. Brands like BAYROL or BWT are worth evaluating by their methodology, testing and support, not just by the name of a single product.
- Measure the water values first.
- Adjust pH and alkalinity according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Address filtration, run time and backwashing.
- Dose chemicals according to the label and water volume.
Regular measurement matters more than the brand of chemicals used – ideally check the values two to three times a week in season, and more often after a storm or heavy use. Digital testers and photometers give more accurate results than test strips, especially for alkalinity and water hardness. Without a record of measured values, it’s hard to tell whether a water problem is actually improving, or just disappearing and coming back.
Plan chemical stock based on actual consumption from the previous season, not on guesswork – excess stock loses effectiveness in storage, especially chlorine products sensitive to heat and moisture. Store them separately by type to avoid an unwanted chemical reaction from accidental contact.
